Add a Safe Sender in Outlook

Instructions for classic Outlook, new Outlook, and Outlook on the web

Example for this request: add noreply@smartsimple.comnoreply@wls.edu as the safe sender. Add only the individual address unless you intentionally want to trust an entire domain.

What this does: Messages from an address or domain on the Safe Senders list are not moved to the Junk Email folder by Outlook. Organization-level filtering or quarantine can still affect delivery.

1. Classic Outlook for Windows

NOTE: You are using classic Outlook if you are using the desktop application and have this slider bar set to off as shown below.

1.       Open classic Outlook and select the Mail view.

2.       On the Home tab, in the Delete group, select Block or Junk, and then select Junk E-mail Options.

3.       Select the Safe Senders tab, and then select Add.

4.       Enter noreply@smartsimple.comnoreply@wls.edu, and then select OK.

5.       Confirm that the address appears in the list, and then select OK to close Junk E-mail Options.

Shortcut: If a message from the sender is already available, select the message. On the Home tab, select Block or Junk, and then select Never Block Sender.

2. New Outlook for Windows

6.       If more than one account is connected, first select the account whose Safe Senders list you want to change.

7.       Select Settings, and then select Mail > Junk email.

8.       Scroll to Senders and select the Safe senders and domains tab.

9.       Select + Add safe sender, enter noreply@smartsimple.comnoreply@wls.edu, and then select OK.

10.   Select Save.

3. Outlook on the web

11.   Sign in to Outlook on the web and select Settings.

12.   Select Mail > Junk email.

13.   Under Senders, select the Safe senders and domains tab.

14.   Select + Add safe sender, enter noreply@smartsimple.comnoreply@wls.edu, and then select OK.

15.   Select Save.

Verify the setting

·         Reopen the Safe Senders list and confirm that noreply@smartsimple.comnoreply@wls.edu is present.

·         If a future message still does not arrive, check the Junk Email folder and your organization’s quarantine, then contact the help desk with the sender address and expected message date.

Important security note

A Safe Senders entry reduces junk-email filtering for that address. It does not prove that every message using the address is legitimate. Continue to review unexpected links, attachments, requests for credentials, and payment requests carefully.
